Tutorial session: my current thoughts of direction

I decided it would be a good idea to arrange for me to have a 1 to 1 tutorial with my lecturer and course leader Dan, this is because I always benefit from these sessions in my own personal development. This was a great opportunity to talk about where I am currently within my research and development.

It was good to share my thoughts and what I have been wrestling with regarding where I should be and if what I am looking at and responding to is correct at the master level within research.

I was pleasantly surprised to hear from Dan that I am in a good position in my research and how I have responded to my own enquiries within my journey. Looking at Hebrew typography and letterforms has actually brought me to a place where I have explored how to write the Alef-bet to then adapt this within a contemporary design.

It was advised after I had shared my thoughts with major curve ball moments in my research and what I wanted to respond to by creating a brain-dumping session. The importance of this within design thinking is to note down all that I have learned and looked into, to then see if there are any connections between the key areas that I have noted down.

Video shows notes from Dan McCabe and Jordan Jones

The video shows notes taken from Dan in what I had shared with him and his own thoughts on key areas that I have already looked into and could explore further by adapting within them making it part of my primary focus within my major project.

This video also shows the following task set by Dan to create a brain dump on paper of all that I have looked at and responded to within my practice-based research. This was actually rather insightful to me as it got me to think about all that I have learnt so far and explored. To see it all written down and linked to other key areas, makes me now want to adapt further these key areas of interest.

I still feel a sense of uncomfortability in my research process and the extent of different areas that I have explored. However, in research, this is where creative ideas can happen if you just embrace the unknown.

The thing is, all my research at this stage actually is rather beneficial within my journey. They all inform one another in different areas, making my research relevant to my discoveries and where I want to explore next.
